As the weather is beginning to feel distinctly cooler and we move into autumn, we are rewarded with some big skies. The dramatic clouds appear iridescent as they reflect the sun setting and we notice the colours dulling in the landscape as nature enters a period of rest. The days grow colder and the nights are darker, so we naturally spend less time outdoors. There are, however, many reasons to wrap up warm venture out.
I began spotting mushrooms and toadstools everywhere and became intrigued by their sculptural qualities. The moss is still a lush green, providing a stunning backdrop for these little wonders.
I stood and made a few sketches and couldn’t help but think of how great these would look in oils. I might make some small square paintings if these as these tiny worlds are so atmospheric!
