A Gentle Day

Oak gall ink

Well today is such a contrast to the warmth of yesterday..there is a chilly wind and grey clouds loom. From my studio window, I can see the trees coming into leaf, ewes lying in wait of their little ones, and I can hear the hum of someone’s lawnmower, probably getting that first cut in before the rain arrives.

Autumn now feels like a distant memory, but I do have reminders of the days when I collected oak galls and walked through the crispy brown leaves. I came across some ink I made with the oak galls. It was lovely to paint this little picture, as it took me back to that special walk which began this little artwork.

Through my recovery, I am finding that some days I just don’t have much energy at all. I am ok with that, and even 10 minutes is enough to keep me motivated and maintaining my art practice. I was quite impressed by the depth of colour in the ink, and I think this painting looks good against the cotton rag paper I dyed with onion skins. Connecting to nature, and experiencing two seasons in one day!
