‘From Your Window’ is one of a series of paintings made to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll. These paintings depict Alice following in the footsteps of her creator through the village of Croft on Tees, North Yorkshire, where Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson) once lived with his family. This particular image shows Alice standing in front of St Peters Church in Croft on Tees. The church is visible from the Rectory across the road, where Lewis Carroll’s father was the Rector for a number of years. Some historians believe that Lewis Carroll’s Cheshire Cat was inspired by a carving found inside this church.
